"The kid who said he was his brother was picking up cash while I'm holding his brothers hand while he's lying in a puddle of water" said Vincent David Johnson. Two teen boys were shot in front of the house where Johnson lives, one fatally. Johnson said he was about to go to bed when he heard what he thought was a tree branch cracking in the thunderstorm, but were actually gunshots. Johnson said he went outside to see two boys shot, one lying in the street unable to speak, gasping on the pavement. Johnson said he then called 911, and held the boys hand before he died. The boy was Michael Patton, 17, and died there in the street, and the other was a 15-year-old and was taken to the hospital. Patton had recently graduated from Bolingbrook High School. June 30, 2014.
The brother of a 17-year-old who was shot and wounded reacts outside of Rainbow PUSH headquarters in Chicago. The Rev. Jesse Jackson ran outside the headquarters to see the youth on the ground, according to a local television station. Two men were shot in a drive-by in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood on June 14, 2014. "I just want to go home" said the woman stuck inside the gated area in the front of the building. Police wouldn't allow her to walk through the crime scene, and the back door of the building was locked. "Where's the gun?" police asked the man in the window, who then told police he didn't see what happened. "Aren't you supposed to protect and serve?" the man in the window asked police when they said they wouldn't help the woman over the gate. "We'd get fucked if we tried to help her over and she got hurt" police said. The men who were shot, ages 20 and 22, were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.

A woman was detained by police after arguing with another woman nearby where a man was shot in the leg near 87th and Morgan on Saturday, July 6, 2014. "This gang warfare has been going all weekend, you see how all the girls came down here? It's because the guys can't come out so they have them do the reconnaissance." said a cop in the 8700 block of S. Morgan where a man was shot. Shortly after the weekend the Chicago Police Department reported that homicides were down to the lowest rate since 1963.
